Frequently Asked Questions
-
What type of damaged book shall I bring to the Novice Repair Workshop?
Please bring a book no larger than A4 sized, that is cloth or paper covered only (leather repairs are not taught in the Novice Repair Workshop), that has some spine, book cover and page damage, but not in pieces or has mould.
Bringing a book that is not significantly damaged, and of a reasonable size to handle, will greatly help you whilst you are learning how to carry out repairs, and gives you the best opportunity to complete your project in the time we have, enabling you to get the most from your workshop.
If you are not sure if your book repair project is suitable, please message me via my Contacts page and upload photos of your book so we can discuss the repairs before you come to your workshop.
-
Can I bring my own tools and repair materials?
You will only be taught using the tools and repair materials provided to you during the workshop, as this ensures that I can teach you the techniques and skills required for the repairs I am demonstrating for you to apply.
Any tools not provided by me are not covered by my insurance. This is for everyone's safety during the workshop.
-
Can under 18 year olds attend these workshops?
Due to insurance policy restrictions, all students must be aged 18 years old or over to attend a workshop.
Students cannot bring children into the workshop classroom either.
-
Can I attend the workshop online?
Unfortunately, this is not possible due to me having to demonstrate close-up skills and support individual students at various times, as well as move around the classroom throughout the session.
-
What if there are no spaces left on the workshop that I would like to attend?
Please email me your details and the workshop you had hoped to attend, and I will add you to a 'first come first allocated' waiting list in the event of any student cancellations.
Please keep looking at my website for future course locations and dates.

Please let me know at the time of booking if you have any specific dietary requests.
-
Can I bring my own lunch?
At Fulbeck, yes you are welcome to bring your own lunch, but please note that unfortunately I can not adjust the workshop price, and you may be asked to eat your lunch off-site, as the workshop class will be eating lunch in The Craftier Cafe and the classroom will be secured during the course lunch period.

Please see my Terms and Conditions under the heading Cancellations, Failure to Attend and Refunds.
-
Are there additional costs that are not included in the workshop price?
There are no additional workshop session costs as the repair tools and materials you will need and your lunch are included in the workshop price.
However, I appreciate each repair project is bespoke and uniquely different for every student. So if there are any specialist decorative papers you would like to buy for your project, I will always discuss options and additional supplier costs with you.
