Join me at The Usher Gallery in Lincoln on Sunday 18th January to take part in a hands-on heritage craft book-making workshop, where you can create a handmade Victorian period notebook to take home and enjoy using.
You will be guided throughout the workshop by me, where I will teach you the traditional bookbinding skills needed, providing step-by-step demonstrations, support and expert advice.
This workshop is suitable for all abilities (over 18 years only), whether you are a complete beginner, just love books or want to build on your hobbyist craft skills.

Victorian Notebook Making Workshop Courses Includes:
- A one-day workshop will run from 10am to 3:30pm (with a one-hour lunch), with expert tuition from me (see my 'Meet The Book Professional' page).
- A high quality bookbinders kit containing carefully selected bookbinding tools and materials is made available for you to use on the day to make your Victorian notebook. The kit is supplied by Learn Bookbinding.
- Tea and coffee refreshments will be available to help yourself to during the workshop.
What to Expect:
I will introduce the activity verbally and visually demonstrate each part of the workshop skill you need to be able to complete your book in stages. I will provide advice, help and guidance throughout the session. Participants are free to ask questions and discuss what they are doing with me and each other throughout the session.
Some elements of this workshop may be challenging if you have difficulty with dexterity, however I will be available help you. This session will be concentrated, but relaxed and quiet. The Usher Gallery has noise cancelling head phones and fidget toys available, please feel free to request this from the gallery reception on your arrival.

What To Bring to the Usher Gallery Workshop;
- For this workshop all the tools and materials you will need to make your book are provided for you to use.
- There will be time to have lunch, so please either bring your own packed lunch or money to buy lunch locally. Please be aware that the Lincoln Museum cafe will be unfortunately shut for renovations on the day of the workshop.
Workshop Student Guidelines:
- The workshop is designed for one adult to attend per workshop space. For insurance purposes and safety, anyone aged under 18 are unable to attend or take part in the workshop.
- Please note kraft knives and sewing needles are part of the kits being used, and will be essential for taking part in the courses.

Usher Gallery Visitor Information:
Located in the heart of the city in the Cultural Quarter, The Usher Gallery is located next to Lincoln Museum and boasts a wide collection of ceramics, clocks, watches, silver and miniatures as well as artwork from esteemed artists like Turner, Lowry and Grayson Perry. Alongside permanent collections, The Usher Gallery offers a vibrant programme of temporary exhibitions. The gallery is open Thursday through to Monday from 10.00 am to 4.00pm.
Workshop Access:
This workshop is taking place in the Clore Learning room at the Usher Gallery. The Clore learning room is accessible by the entrance of the Usher. To find the Clore learning room, enter the Usher gallery by the glass extension entrance and go to the main door on the left. There are ramps and wide doors to accommodate wheelchairs, and a disabled access toilet oppositive the Clore learning room door, behind the reception desk.
